December 16, 2011. Gates. The old city gates of St. Augustine, right across from the Castillo de San Marcos, were part of a defensive structure built around 1704 following a 1702 siege by the English during Queen Anne's War.
The small remains of the old wall are brightly lit by a busy nearby road and tourist attractions.
